Heres another question: When I eventually do upgrade and rebuild a 63 what do guys normally upgrade to in terms of turbo. I know its a preference thing for each individual but given that I'm after reliability and it will be a daily driver, for a fresh 63 is it a TD05 20-25g? TD06? TE06 20g? I've just seen these turbos on eBay and was curious. It won't be in the near future but I just wanted to know what you guys reckon...
 
Ported TD05 and 20g, good compromise made to work with some exhaust cam tuning. Enough boost for solid midrange and can still huff enough into redline. $0.02
 
Also take a look at reinforcing the firewall at the clutch pedal. A proper short-shifter, brake stopper, pair of evo6 recaros and a refresh of the shifter bushes will make a nice difference to the daily driver experience.
 
Good ol' big 16G is perfectly matched for an Evo 3 or VR4 4G63 in daily driver spec.

IMO a 20 or 25G will give too much lag in the traffic light grand prix for a daily driver or the occasional 'spirited" punt through the hills
 
I like those suggestions ENGINR...the reinforced firewall at the clutch pedal..I think I may have suffered the consequences of NOT doing this on my CC lancer back home or at least something similar when you mentioned it. I couldn't get the bugger into 1st or 4th gear and I went through the whole process of replacing the clutch (as advised by someone more knowledgable than me) at home only to pull it out and see that it had plenty of life in it. We later found out that the clutch pedal just needed welding due to wear and tear lol. So I'm not gonna make that same mistake again.
 
So the FW brace for the clutch pedal is the square plate as per Jack's post ?

And it just bolts on as shown, and then is bolted onto the FW?

I literally just did this today. You'll have to get 2 x 12mm spacers and tack em onto the two opposite corners of the the clutch pedal assembly where it bolt thru fire wall and then fab the plate to go across all 4 spacers. I'm on phone atm but when i get to my lappy I'll post a pic
 
I chucked a crush bush from some unused pedders bushes in the lathe, and the pate is just 3mm 80x70, a 32mm hole saw and some die grinding to suit.
 
I think i used a couple of m10 nuts that were right thickness. 3mm ali plate. Has to glue the plate to the spacers or it wouldnt stay in right spot.
proton use a non sprung pedal (less weight, but heavier pedal feel.
