Engine Rebuilding?

How many K's on the engine? Would it have been rebuilt before?
Chances are if it has been built before it would have been bored 20thou already, especially if there was scoring in the cylinders.

If it is scored again, you may need to go 40thou over, but I'm not sure how much tolerance those engines have on boring.

Best bet is to strip it and get the tolerances checked.

It's never been touched. It's a diesel and she's sitting at 339,994 atm.

Compression is 300-305-300-305-310-300 across 6 cylinders. Recommended compression is 525 in each. And yes that's psi... it's a diesel.

I guess i'll wait till the vr4's driving then rip the engine out and get it checked... then order the parts. Just want the freaking engine to be back in the 500's.

Very close compression considering the age of the car and the km's!

Nothing is fucked, just tired. Damn that engine has lasted a long time!

So I should just tear it down and get it checked for tolerances?

Toyota diesels regularly last forever. This one's probably got a good couple hundred thousand more km's in it... just be slower and slower as time goes on. It's starting to blow ARSELOADS of black smoke now... so i'm gonna do something about it soon.

But yeah... pull it out, strip it down and get it checked? or pull it out and drop the longblock fully assembled off for checking? Do I strip allt he parts out of it and drop off a bare block or an assembled block? I'm a newbie at this. I can pull it out no problem...

Take the Block\Crank\Rods to a engine builder for a check over (hone - bore if needed) (Probably wouldn't cost much more to have him fit the bearings/rings so you know the bolts are done up correctly.
If the deck isn't flat on the block, the head will require shaving (As well as the block, But its all cast - so shouldn't be to bad.
Hopefully you can get away with just bearings/rings :) At at least its Cruiser, so parts are cheap

the engine is a monster!
take it somewhere, save you the headache!

how heavy is the motor by itself?

Not sure. Something around the 500kg mark.

Not overly fussed, that's what engine cranes are for. I'm not paying some bastard to remove/refit it though... and M&W here in ballarat WILL NOT remove/refit engines. They will onyl work on your engine if yousupply just that... the engine.
