Reading the link baz put up,interesting.
Thanks baz :)

An sorry to hear it cost you so much akuma...
It seems to me all these lil 4wd rockets weak link seem to be gearboxes....

pm me if you want an il get you onto someone in melb who knows these cars inside an out next time something comes up.

We've all seen what Mitsubishi charge for new parts!!! lol
At least you got a new clutch kit which we dont know what price it was out of that $4k you spent.
If it involved removal and refit of the gearbox plus a new clutch kit and machining of flywheel etc, plus some new gearbox internals, then I wouldnt doubt those who dont have access to spare parts to have accumulated big costs. It still seems a bit overpriced though. Depending what was done/bought, costs can blow out really quick.
I hope he let you keep your old EVO III gearbox!!! It can definitely be repaired or at least parts re-used to repair other gearboxes.
We need to keep our old gearboxes within the community and not lose them to workshops who would just throw them away for scrap!!!

no, i didnt get it.. ill give him abuzz on monday and retrieve it back..

umm, he said 2nd hand gsr box was 2800, done 80,000kms, but he opened it and replaced all bearings.
new clutch, remove and refitting of gearbox.. and thats it.
couldnt give me a dodgy rwc. :(

Wtf?? 2nd hand gsr gearboxes sell for 600-1000 in this forum. Thats the going price theyve been selling in the forum for years. Faaark man, I sold 3 x Gsr boxes last year that i opened and fixed what needed doing and sold for 600-650 each. Definitely get your Evo 3 box back IMMEDIATELY!!!! Even if it is damaged people like myself or other members would still throw you a few hundred bux for it depending on the damage and then fix it up for ourselves or resell. I hate seeing people swindled or an evo box go to waste. Im up for buying spare parts as people hit me up for spares or fixing boxes often lol.

Hmm, can you see fresh silicone on the joints of the new box?
I'd also ask him for the bearings that he removed !
That is way overpriced!
And if the e3 box has an LSD it's worth a lot more than a few hundred even broken!

Its hard getting rwc these days. There not leniant anymore, its what was a dealbreaker when i bought my gsr.

Evo00x you seem like a good guy to help people like that. No homo lol.

lol @ Mopar... no homo taken. Its just the fact that gearboxes are usually something people dont understand nor want to work on themselves. So when things go wrong people get raped by repairers or buy 2nd hand gearboxes in unknown condition to use as replacements. Hearing what has happened to Akuma makes me shake my head and feel sorry for him.
Ive been burnt bad buying gearboxes before and blatantly lied to by sellers about their condition or what the symptoms were before they sold it. I'd hate to think what would have happened if someone else put them straight into their cars! It taught me a lesson to be more careful unless the gearbox was selling cheap enough to take the gamble or I get to inspect it first before handing over the cash. You can only get shafted so many times before you learn your lesson - no homo intended of course lol.

oi rob have you got a gsr box there? if so and this one i've got turns out to be a dud would you be interested in selling me one in trade? ie i pay you for the good box and as part of the payment send you my dud i know how much you love working on gearboxes!

He wont be doin much for a say a month or 2 due to medical reasons, Kyle, do you know whats wrong with it?? Rob has been ripped of doin that exact deal, the dud box he got ended up being useless and lost alot of $$

nothing that i know of yet. i haven't even put it in the car/ opened it up so for all i know it could be sweet. i was speaking in theoreticals the mechanic i normally use is a gearbox specialist but we've kinda become his cash cow as we use him for all our business related work. cost me 300 just to get him to open it up and check the syncros and i don't think he really did much so I'd hate to think of the bill should he actually have to do something and use genuine parts.

i've got my finger and toes crossed but it came out of a supposedly running car that got side swiped but i don't know it's history bought from a member on here about 2 months ago. and yeah no probs on the 1-2 months thing we all have lives and things that happen in them.

thats a good enough reason to learn to open and inspect them yourself. bont need much more than the manual and a press
