umm, he said 2nd hand gsr box was 2800, done 80,000kms, but he opened it and replaced all bearings.
new clutch, remove and refitting of gearbox.. and thats it.
couldnt give me a dodgy rwc. :(

looks like he just made 2k on that box. not worth more than 800

oi rob have you got a gsr box there? if so and this one i've got turns out to be a dud would you be interested in selling me one in trade? ie i pay you for the good box and as part of the payment send you my dud i know how much you love working on gearboxes!
Kyle, unfortunately thats how I got burnt before :( . Most recently via an exchange agreement where I was supposed to get an EVO box just taken out of a working car and apart from the crunchy 3rd gear, was 'allegedly' working fine. But what I got in exchange was an EVO box that had black, burnt and putrid smelling oil with silver metallic shit right through it, 5th gear synchro keys installed 180 degrees backwards so the springs werent even holding them in!!, a damaged 5th gear and synchro, heavily burnt and pitted rear input shaft bearing, chipped teeth on the intermediate shaft (throwaway), completely rooted centre diff (the upper shim had disintegrated and heavily burnt and pitted all the internals, even worn the brass shims razor blade thin - complete throwaway), damaged shift rail, damaged 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th sliders, chipped teeth on a couple of gears, rooted 2nd gear and 3rd gear synchros and several burnt and pitted bearings that needed replacing. There was no way this box was working fine in the car before it was removed and sent to me for exchange. What I was doing as favours and helping people out ended up backfiring in my face. Now I dont buy a damaged gearbox unless I inspect it first or get it cheap enough to take the gamble

no prob man it's a shame people or feel the need to take advantage of a person who does good by others. i'll keep you in mind for repair if time comes for it though hopefully i haven't been burnt with a bad box

No probs, let me know how you go. As my brother said Ive got some health shit I need to get sorted first, plus get my own car back on the road before I'll be able to get back into the swing of things.
The last time I used e-go freight from up your way was around $60 one-way from memory so its not too bad... its actually quite good.

If you don't want the hassle of shipping a box all the way to Sydney don't forget that I rebuild boxes as well and I'm less than an hour away :)
I do have a small backlog ATM though!

There you go Kyle, Tim will help you out :)
He's a much better proposition as he's up your way and you dont need to ship it.

true true. how much to open her up and take a look that way im not going to all the effort of install only to rip it back out due to issues?

Thats still nice of you to help though evo00x.
I wish i was more mechanically minded.
In theory i know how things work but hands on im kinda hopeless lol.
