Looking for a 4G63 to rebuild.

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Fuck Jamo, not what I wanted to hear. I got the Exedy as a replacement for the one that's just gone. Had an Exedy on the 4g93 and it took heaps of abuse and was still going strong when I ripped it out. That was my reasoning for getting one for the '63. I guess I'll see how long it lasts, good practice changing them out quick too, might come in handy at the targa events.

Doh!

That's probably why it held up Ben.

Well, like I said, plenty of practice changing clutches...... :(

This be the run that killed the clutch. Nothing to indicate a problem, but just after the camera is turned off, I go to reverse into my park and some interesting noises emanate from the bellhousing. I got it home ok, and did the recce for the next event ok, but on the start line the car would not disengage from the gearbox, full stop. When i get motivated with spare time I'll find out what actually went wrong.

(A few weeks old, just found it on a memory card. Unedited cause I got lazy.)

Finally got around to having a look at what went bad in the clutch.

Seem to be as expected. I'm about to replace this one with an Exeedy, so from all accounts I will be doing this again shortly.

Other issue to be addressed while the car is on blocks-
- Changed front lower control arms to E3.
- Replace sump with a std one
- Buy a proper bottom radiator hose
- Come up with some form of heat shield for the alternator

I'm struggling to find a drop link to suit what i'm doing with the front sway bar. I need a straight pin through the sway bar but a ball joint for the strut end, similar to the Holden ones. I'm guessing at this stage the GSR sway bar has different ends to an E3 bar? I don't seem to be able to even find a part listing for E3 front sway bar link, only the bushing for what I just took off. Anyways, the holden drop links will work if I cant find anything else.

I need this style of drop link.

You'll most likely have clearance issues on the street Jack. It hangs down below the north south bar quite a bit. The turbo drain is going across to the new sump. I will keep this one and re fab it, need the baffling from it.

It's all good, I'll clamp them down with the kangajack. :)

Reminds me of getting seized pistons out of calipers at Perth brake. Screw nipples into all the bleed hole and then set them in front of the oxy.

Fuck'n BOOOMM!!!

Happy days..........

Amazing what a little time away from the salt mine does.

Other issue to be addressed while the car is on blocks-
- Changed front lower control arms to E3. Tick
- Replace sump with a std one. Tick Came with a leaky drain pipe for free!!
- Buy a proper bottom radiator hose. Tick (Toyota landcrusier diesel bottom hose fits perfect!)
- Come up with some form of heat shield for the alternator. Nah, not yet. Too hard

Needs a wheel alignment something fierce now with the E3 LCA's, running about 5 degrees toe out, I assume the stock GSR tie rods have enough adjustment to get them pointing straight again???

Clutch works again, and thanks to Jack have the ability to select gears again. Will bed the clutch, get an alignment and be ready for Rd3 of the Macrae. Yay!

With the heat sheild for alternator....what turbo and dump do you have?
If you have a factory dump then there is a factory heat sheild which bolts onto the dump.
I have one on mine after frying the alternator not that long ago. I can take a pic to show you if you like?

Hey Jamo.

Running FP mani, Autobahn 888 dump and T05 big. There are no mounting holes for any type of shield. I was waiting to see where that group buy was headed a while back but seems to have gone quiet. I think the cheapest short term solution is one of those soft cover style ones (link) and then take the time to make up a fully fab'd one. I can just use some wrap around the dump.

Good news on the tie rod ends, was a bit worried as it changed the front geometry a bit more than I had anticipated.

In regards to your clutch issue id go to a solid disc if it happens again , ive heard stories of exedy dropping springs . That said ive got the older style exedy full disc with 8 contact pads on it with small tight springs and its coping very well for second hand clutch.

The turbo itself has two of the mount points for the factory sheild...maybe you could utilise them and rig up something to hold it to that elcheapo dump?
