Smokey GSR

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

I took out the plugs which i put in a week or so ago, they are completely black, so i'm not sure if i should bother putting the new plugs in if they are just going to get that blackened just from letting it idle

I cleaned the air filter, and i'll put it on tomorrow (still have to oil it), but im not sure how to check the AFM (or even where it is?)

AFM is located right near where the filter connects. It has a honeycomb like appearance. As for checking the AFM look and see if the honeycomb sections are not bent.

Also maybe take your injectors to get professionally cleaned, OR run a batch of injector clean throught your next tank on fill up day

Having trouble finding this AFM lol, i think maybe i don't have one (if thats possible)

I attached a photo of the area around the air filter

And yeah i might run some injector cleaning stuff through, and see if it improves anything, i'd rather not pay out for them to be properly cleaned if they absolutely don't need it (bit low on cash atm)

(and yes i know the valve cover is horrible lol, i didn't do it thought, one of these days ill repaint it to look a bit nicer  )

u are running an aftermarket ECU if u dont have an air flow meter. which brings in some other issues. it COULD just need a good tune. check your coolant temp sensors. the sensor could be dirty or faulty and the ECU thinks the car is stone cold. so it pumps fuel for cold start settings.

could be a vacuum line off, although the idle didnt sound *too* rough.
but yeah its definately running very very rich.

Hmm well i cleaned and reoiled the air filter, changed the plugs and tested the leads (they were all ok), and there seems to be slightly less smoke now during idle

I tried to check my avc-r for the injection duty cycle values (i figured they might shed some light on something), but it wont show up, it was never connected properly so all it shows is revs and boost..

Anyway so next ill check all the sensors and everything and see if that improves it

Did you do the cooler piping or did some muzza?

if some muzza, it * could * be in there.. so go through the intake side of the piping and check for your AFM :p

You obviously do not have an AFM and must be sensing load through the MAP (Manifold Pressure). What aftermarket ECU are you running?
has it always been like this since you bought the car?
Sounds like it needs a good tune, the cold-start map seems far too rich and hence the crappy idle and fouling plugs.
