I install a pump last night to the GSR and it is LOUD. has any one else had a similar issue. small issues with bolting it in Im wondering if its touching the bottom of the tank. i could not use the rubber bit at the bottom as it just would not fit with out extending the bracket some how.

cheers brian

they are loud.. only way to fix it is to use a siliconn hose to put over the top of the pump.. which should quieten it down.. mine isnt that loud now since i did that!

thanks for the fast replies.....next issue it must have been quite lean before because it reved cleanly to red line now it stutters and farts
so I thinking getting better fuel delivery has caused some richness in the top end the old pump didnt have the delivery to show up

am i on the right track and do i need to change the regulator

Yeah, I put one in the other night, I'm pretty shocked at how loud it is.

The walbro in tank pump I installed is actually far louder than the boot mounted bosch 044 I have - I might even change it, annoying.

edit: Some people run walbros without a regulator okay, and some have problems with it over-powering it. Get your fuel pressure checked :)

By "over the top of the pump", you mean a large diameter hose that the pump neatly fits inside.
Mine came with something like this, but it wasn't thick enough to make it really quiet.

Alex.

Yeah, mine came with a rubber hose to sit over the pump, but the sender fouled on the side of it, so I had to leave it off.

chances are that you will need to upgrade your regulator...

you've gone from an 80L/hr pump to a lot more (160L/hr???)... you'll be running rich fo sure...

yeh the one in our car is really loud, it comes and goes tho, and doesnt seem to matter about fuel level. Some times its fairly quiet.. and some times its defining.. i spose no carpet rear seats or any interior doesnt help but it is loud.

And just check to see if its a genuine Walbro fuel pump as well as the copies are crap. Look for the FAKE WALBRO sticky post in the "For Sale" section of this forum

Yeah as everyone says, Walbros are loud hence the nickname "Whinebro"

As for it hitting the bottom of the tank: The stock GSR pump is actually about 5mm shorter than the Walbro. Find yourself an Evo 1-3 pump cradle and you'll get around this.

Yeah, I had to use the stock pickup and do some 'modification' to the bottom of the tank (read: hammer) to get the stock cradle to fit in there.

When i fitted mine in I used the old O ring and placed it on the out tube first then the collar and new O ring , that plus had to do several in and out fittings of in the tank and had to bend the cradle away from the swirl pot to stop any vibration being amplified by hitting the inside of tank.
You can only here mine if outside the car and only just hear it from inside the car its only very lightly there sound wise.

I i it when its whining away and when you indicate it drops pitch as the indicator blinks

mine used to do that, so i connected a relay to it so the pump draws direct battery power. now the whine is a nice steady constant tone even when using blinkers etc :)

guys sorry to bring up an old topic , but its better than starting another thread which will be repetitive.

i have a 'potential' problem with my walbro / not sure if i is a problem

ive had it 3 years now. its always been a noisy fker which is fine.

but in the time ive had it, about 4 times now (1 of which was today) it gets REALLLLLLY loud and high pitch whiny where you can hear it screaming / echoing on the car next to you.

the only change that has happened is I fueled up this morning (98 octane mobil which im not too happy in using now after this!) and after a half hour drive it got louder and louder to the point i was going insane

one of the other times ive had this problem it was also after getting fuel...

i have not tested today as of yet, but last time, leaving the car to rest will get rid of the problem for a while and then it will come back. Then by the time i refuel it somewhere else a couple days later the noise just goes to its usual whining.

i suspect it may be fuel related? my question: can shit fuel cause it to whine a lot worse? or is there something wrong with my pump for it to be louder than normal like ive explained? (also its not a fake walbro ;) )

mine is like that all the time.....so loud it make people in the car next to me at the lights ask about the noise. It was brand new in the packet genuine product but as with everything there are those ones that just ARE not up to normal scratch. pulling it out to do some thing else it drives me nuts ,I think your noise maybe related to bearing or bush failure in the pump. Im going to check that on mine

brian

yeah. luckily mine doesnt do it 24x7 like urs hahaha

mine was at the stage today where ppl look over and think my cars gonna explode.. its NEVER usually that loud

anyone reckon bad fuel can cause it though?!

Mine changes volume depending on how much fuel is in the tank. Resonant frequencies I guess.

If mine was as loud as some of you guys complain about, then I'd do something about it.
If it's touching the tank, it will be loud.

I, like John, had a couple of goes at putting it in and checking how loud it was before I was happy.

Alex.
