welded centre do I need a VCE

it helps the car off the line at the drags, not to mention takes that weak link out of the chain. It's really not that bad to drive on the street, except when your trying to park, and I never had any transmission issues - not until I converted it to rwd anyway.

welded centre do I need a VCE

If you've welded the centre diff you don't need a vce. You can refit the stock viscous unit to hold the ball bearing that keeps the transfer case output shaft in place. It won't DO anything because the centre diff is welded and immovable. Alternatively, my gearbox was missing the ball bearing...

shockers/strut braces/sway bars (information to maybe go in a sticky in the future)

Most coil overs have spring rates that are much too high for comfortable daily use. I've got king springs and kyb shocks in one of my vr4's and it handles pretty well and is still comfortable. In my other vr4 I have Cusco Zero2 coilovers (modified evo5 ones) and it handles really well on smooth...

    turbo intake has oil

It's pretty normal to have a small amount of oil in the intake pipe. How much smoke does the car blow, and when? It could be valve stem seals, or rings - when you have a turbo oil seal failure it's VERY obvious, everything behind you is obscured by smoke when you put your foot down (it still...

What Wheels Work on Your Car?

    Blox cams

not really. depending how much has been taken off the base circle of the lobe you may need to put shims under the lifters to compensate. If you don't the lifter may not be able to extend far enough to support the rocker arm at all times. removing the hardened surface of the cam lobe is often...

    GSR Diff

there's more to good handling than just bolting in expensive suspension... setting the alignment and ride height right is a good start. I'd also suggest driving style has alot to do with it.

Don't the 2wd galants have a more turns lock to lock?

    Alternator dies

protip: refit the heat shield that goes around your exhaust housing/dump pipe, usually these get taken off/thrown away when the exhaust is upgraded - without it life gets pretty warm for the regulator built into the alternator.

    td05 16g upgrade

Okay just quickly, 16G, 20G etc refer to the compressor size/type only. You can use a 20G compressor with a modified stock compressor housing, but it will work better with a bigger compressor housing. How much power are you aiming for? and what sort of rev range? a 16G is capable of nearly...

Track Car - What would you choose and Why

Theory is sound, I'd go with a Honda rather than a Toyota though, either an EG Civic or a DC Integra with a B18C engine - with a good suspension setup and semi-slicks it'll be about as quick as a 250kW evo at most tracks thanks to weighing f-all and it'll go forever.

    Blowing smoke

10w 40 is good for a new to medium km motor, once your much past 100,000km's (and certainly once you've done 150,000) everythings getting a tad worn, so 15w 50 or 20w 50 is the go. I wouldn't worry too much though, even when it's burning oil faster than you can top it up it'll still go hard -...

    055 afm

If you've got one to hand, wrap a piece of string around it, mark where it overlaps, then lay it out against a ruler and measure the length to give the circumference of the oval. Then do some basic maths to work out the diameter. 3.75" miiiight fit, but I just used a 3"- 4" reducer because it...

    Rear LSD Options for E39A

There are plenty of 4bolt viscous lsd's with the 4ws gear. You won't find a mech with 4ws in either 3 or 4 bolt.

    GSR factory boost soleniod....broke it

won't make any difference to the ecu if it's there or not. A few years back when my ebc died at the drags I collected the 'spare' solenoids from a bunch of my mates cars and daisy-chained them using the t-pieces from the windscreen washer lines and some spare vac hose - bit of a bode but it worked

    Roll front guards?

If you just want to roll the inner lip up, DIY with a hammer and a block of wood - warm the paint first with a heat gun so it doesn't crack. If you need more flare (ie: you want to pull the guard out) use a baseball bat and an assiatant, again warm the paint first. Ain't hard at all, just take...

    5 stud conversion?

Certainly. For clarity I shall refer to the flange with the wheel studs as the hub and the cast piece that bolts to the strut and suspension arm as the knuckle. Step 1: remove hub from car, remove brake disc and caliper also. Then go to work on the brake backing plates with tin snips and a...

Two Timing Belt Related Quick Questions:

There are 4 different lengths of bolt for the lower timing cover - www.vfaq.com has a diagram to get them all in the right places. On one of mine the water pump pulley/belt has cut right through the cover.
