For the gurus in the know (and those who've actually done it)

Whats the likely power of the following

Genuine Evo 3, with.
  • catback
  • 1 bar
  • Pod filter
Just asking because a mate did this and came up with a figure i thought was a bit low....I wouldve though it'd be seeing around the 180-185Kw @ all 4....?

Does depend on a few things-

type of dyno
brand of dyno
ambient air temp
elevation above sea level
gear used for dyno run

Yeah i see your point, it was about 25 deg, @ sea level. The gear i beleive was 4th

and the type of dyo; i think it was just a conventional 4 wheel roller dyno, not a hub dyno or whatever they are where they take the whhels off

Hahah, winner...
it went 156Kw, which i though was a touch low..?

thats about right.. itll still run high 12s with that

Really, as in just dip in?

Does it hold true that a vr4 need around 180 @ all 4to do high 12.s then?

Well i made 154.3kw on 12psi but thats FWD on an EVO2 motor with zaust and intake... seeing you lose power throught he driveline i knew it wouldnt have made much more power than that on couple of pounds more

I ran a 13.1 on my setup being FWD :p but thats also runnin high boost and much more mods to it since the 154.3kw

My old VR4 ran a 12.5@109 with 202kw and 18" wheels, sub, big box and 2 amps.

If you can drive, I reckon you can do a 12 with 180kw

The member 'Craig_CD9A' in Adelaide laid down 173kw's at the wheels recently with virtually identical mods...

a 1/4 mile run result depends on a lot of things, to name a few, power, torque spread, weight, traction, aerodynamics,....

My Chariot/Nimbus been dyno'd at 155Kw on all fours and did a best of 13.01sec 1/4 mile.

I was thinking 140ish...
150 for those mods aren't too bad mate.

A good few examples.
TDO5 big16g
vr4 motor
full exhaust
1bar - 18psi boost
FMIC + piping
Fuel pump
Good ECU

Those mods should net you about the 180-210kw's at the wheels.
This is on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno.

I've seen this on about 5 - 6 setups.

As for dyno types, they all vary, so just use it as a tuning tool, not a benchmark.

Use the 1/4 mile for a benchmark. But once again, lots of variables ie, driver, tyres, etc etc...

???

Interesting talk...
What restricts a vr4 with the same kw as an evo to a slower 1/4 mile time...
Is it all weight issues or ???

Id say itd have to be.

Its not tlike the motors are all that different, the gearing is a bit though, that might play a small role, but vr4's came 3,909 as well

gearing.. evo gets up off the line and is much tighter gearing..
when doing a high 12 your looking at around about 150-160kmph range and thats very easy to get to in an evo cos of the gearing!..

also weight does play a part.. i also think that camshafts and the compression ratio's of the motor play a part too as the evo 3 is more 'alive' with the higher comp then the vr4 is with the 7.8:1 (boost me up) comp.
