Timing Belt Marks

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

I also tend to pull out all the spark plugs and stick a timber dowel down No. 1 cylinder so I can see when No. 1 is at top dead centre.

spin the motor 6 full times and they should line up.

6 spins of the crank?

OR

six times having the Cams at 3/9 oclock, all marks lined up and dowel pins at 12 0'clock?

anyone know?

I've always found that even though vfaq says to pretension the exhaust cam by one tooth, that I have had to pretension it by 2 teeth to get it all the line up right. If you have locked you cams together then you should not have to worry about it though.

thats assuming my mech did it right though yeah..

when u say pretension wat u mean? u mean dip wheel in a tooth..thatd mean the wheels arent exactly at 3 and 9 0clock then?

well this is my discovery....

the CAms are at 3 and 9 0clock..dowel pins are upright..balancer sprocket is in line, crank is in line..oil pump mark is a little advance..only just past the mark,in fact on the right hand side of the mark..

so should i drop the tension and move the oil pump back a tooth?
think that should combat it?

Ditto my last post....if i was to move the oil pump, even a tooth,I think it would be even further out

I just had a real good look and the oil pump, balancer sprocket and crank sprocket are lined up fine, the dowel pins are at 12 oclock..

what doesnt look right is the cam nothes...
the exhaust cam notch is sitting a liitle higher than the intake

theyre not dead level......does that mean my cams are out?
as im turning the motor over it seems fine,iIf i was out in a bad way would i hear/feel a valve contact the piston..maybe the cams a tooth out..?

im probably giving you guys a brain meltdown here.

thanks heaps for your help. :!:
